Built Ford tough, tougher, or toughest? Ranger pickup adds available off-road hardware

New versions of the Ford Ranger mid-size pickup can be fitted with ascending levels of off-road hardware at dealerships, the automaker announced Tuesday.

The first two of three off-road packages will be available at dealers in August. The third off-road package won’t be available until next summer. All three packages can be fitted to 2019 and 2020 Ford Ranger pickups with four-wheel drive, according to Ford spokesman Andrew Surma.

The first package includes Fox monotube off-road front and rear shocks with an off-road leveling kit, plus 17-inch wheels for $2,495, not including installation.

Small crossover SUV adds more power

The 2021 Subaru Crosstrek will address a longstanding gripe that owners of the small crossover SUV have had since the car’s debut for 2013. 

Subaru announced Tuesday that the new 2021 Crosstrek will be available with a more powerful, 182-horsepower 2.5-liter flat-4 that makes nearly 20% more power than the base 2.0-liter flat-4 equipped on all of the small crossovers until now. 2021 Toyota Corolla adds Android Auto compatibility, more safety gear

Toyota’s venerable small car can always learn a few new tricks.

When it arrives in dealers later this year, the 2021 Toyota Corolla will offer standard Android Auto and satellite radio compatibility, as well as more standard and available safety equipment, Toyota spokesman Zach Reed confirmed.

Reed didn’t say how much the sedan or hatchback will cost when it goes on sale, but it’s not likely to stray far from the base prices for 2020, which were $20,555 for the Corolla sedan, $24,055 for the Corolla Hybrid, or $21,245 for the Corolla Hatchback.
